A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DUEG OUTREACH PROGRAM OF SIKAP-BUNDOK
DUEG PART I was a spur of the moment plan. During the regular meeting on November 04, 2012, members were brainstorming on what to do as a holiday activity for December. Someone, now unidentified, suggested an outreach in the Aeta Resettlement Area of Dueg. The club had gone there earlier that year on a minor climb up Mt. Damas. The idea was accepted. Then the details. The outreach was set for December 01 – 02, 2012. The gift-giving was to be done on Dec 02. It was not yet DUEG PART I.
With only three weeks before the target dates, not much can be done. The club could not carry out an outreach that would benefit most of the individuals in the community. It was decided to limit the target beneficiaries to children enrolled at the Day Care level. The next decision had to be what to give. A member recalled that many of the children were barefooted. So, it had to be rubber slippers of the ‘Beachwalk’ type.
Subsequently, our then contact in the area, Yancey Yves T. Camba, then manager of DUFMA (Dueg Upland Farmers Marketing Association) suggested inclusion of the the elementary level pupils among the beneficiaries. We agreed. At that time, we were not ready to include high-schoolers.
The project pushed through as scheduled, with the members pooling their resources. The program set a pattern that we followed in subsequent reprise of the activity: Group games, orderly gift-giving, and merienda feeding.
Pencils, ballpoint pens, toys and various items accumulated by the members were given as prizes. Excess and general-use items were left with the teachers for their distribution and use as they see fit to do. This has become common practice for the outreach.

SB GETS TV EXPOSURE
On June 2nd while the monthly meeting was ongoing, the Prexy received a call from Jocel of GMA7. She wanted the group to arrange a climb for one of their stars, Mikael Daez, by Wednesday, June 5th for their Follow That Star feature to be aired on the weekend. A meeting was quickly arranged for the following day. A day-hike up Mt. Batulao, on the boundary of Nasugbu and Balayan, province of Batangas was recommended for its open, 360 degree view, and relatively easy access. The date was set for Wednesday, June 5th. It was to be an early hike, and a traverse and even a possible coconut-tree climbing by the actor was planned. As they say, the best laid plans…

Dueg Part 3
Attention: MEMBERS
and FRIENDS
SB shall do DUEG PART 3 early December 2013. As before, the target beneficiaries are the
pupils and students, daycare to high school levels, at the Dueg Resettlement
Community, Sitio Dueg, Barangay Maasin, town of San Clemente, province of
Tarlac.
As before, we shall distribute pencils, ball pens, pad
papers, notebooks and crayons and the merienda consisting of macaroni soup with
chicken and vegetables, plus a pack of biscuit each.
This time, however, we hope to generate enough cash
contribution to enable us to give each child, from grades 1 to 12 (elementary
through high school) one good T-shirt each.
A good quality T-shirt, printed with the sponsor’s logo
and/or SB outline logo, would cost around P130 to P150 each. We should plan for 230 – 250 pieces.
While we prefer that the tees be in common quality and
design, we welcome donations of T-shirts with pre-printed corporate or project
logos. We only ask that these preferably
be in children’s and young adult sizes.
Although we prefer in white or yellow colored tees, we welcome those in
other base colors.
We need help in sourcing donations in cash or in kind. Please
send me via e-mail (rfcuyugan0605@yahoo.com.ph)
or via SMS (+63917-5461576) the names, title/designations, addresses of your
prospective donors who may require formal requests.
Donations in cash may be coursed via any SB officer, or may
be directly deposited to any of the following accounts:
1.
Reynaldo F. Cuyugan – BPI C/A 3311-0002-67
2.
Ma. Regina Z. Javier – BPI 0276-3227-92
When you do deposit, please let us know so we can account
for these.
Comments from the previous Dueg outreach have reached us to
wit: we are different from other
outreach groups in that we do not give away randomly to those who get in line
quickly, and aggressively.
We intend to keep it that way. We have targeted specific members of the
community – the enrolled pupils and students.
Only after they are served that we shall distribute excess items
randomly.
